Approx 2 hours easy biking to explore the oldest town in Yogyakarta. Started from Studio76 for the briefing & brain storming of Kotagede’s history.

We bike to the ruin of defensive wall of the palace, built in 16th century. Then we see the throne of the 1st Sultan of Mataram Islam, a black square stone. An option to stop at local chocolate shop. We continue to the oldest mosque in the city, here you’ll also learn the penetration of Islam in Java & Kotagede. This is also the area where you can see an eclectic architecture of Islam & Hindou.

We continue our bike ride through labyrinth of traditional houses in Kotagede. You’ll see a different architecture built by Kalang people, an exclusive community in Kotagede. They wanted to stand out of the Javanese rich families & colonial style. Continue to bike on the main road, passing the oldest market and finally we’ll stop at a local house to enjoy traditional snack & drink. Biking back to finish point at Studio76.
